My passion has a purpose. I pray that this purpose is understood and received in the spirit in which it is intended; to promote truth above all. I am engaging with many people on this topic and would very much welcome conversations and discussions from anyone. There is a “healing modality” that is gaining popularity once again; one that I personally have experience with as a recipient and student. I learned of it through a practitioner who was the most loving and kind person; someone who I worked for in Atlanta, Georgia who was the coordinator for wellness services at Piedmont Hospital. While I was at Mayo Clinic recently, I was surprised to see that it had made its way onto the main menu of posted services; rather than remaining a service spoken about from individual practitioners within the spa. The reason I am surprised and dismayed at this is because of the false premise and undisclosed framework that it is based upon.
This practice is Reiki. “Usui Shiki Ryoho.”
It is being promoted as a “laying on hands” practice and energy healing.
For those who do not know me well, I have been in the field as a wellness practitioner for 21 years and have studied many modalities. I have been a Neuromuscular Therapist since 2003, studied religion and philosophy for almost the same time period, and have lived at ashrams learning Vedic science and Yoga. Eight years ago, I received my own certification as a Vedic Meditation Teacher in Rishikesh, India. Many years prior to that, approximately in 2002-2004, I also was a recipient of Reiki as a consumer and went through the first of three levels of practitioner attunement. Due to my realization of the experiences specific to Reiki, I spent two years unwinding the harm and trauma that adversely affected my spiritual life. I should note that this was prior to my convictions in Christ. I knew that it was fundamentally wrong despite being very fascinated with its power. I feel very qualified to speak on this topic with the hopes that if you participate in attunements or “healing sessions” in Reiki, that you fully understand what you are actually receiving.
Reiki is not ancient; and Reiki is not meditation. Reiki is a cult-based practice that requires practitioner dedication to spiritual contracts- and has been promoted for about 130 years.
Japanese Samurai practiced a blend of many spiritual and religious customs- mainly Shinto and Buddhism; Shingon and Tendai, more specifically- which are known as the most esoteric forms.
A Japanese Samurai “monk” from an imperialist family created his own “form of energy work” in the late 1800’s that is based on these frameworks. It was taken by his devotees who left Japan in pursuit of spreading the practice worldwide. This practice is called “Reiki.”The origin story was fabricated to draw “western minded and Christian” recipients as the concept conveyed Master Usui as a Christian monk in pursuit of Jesus and understanding His ability to heal with his hands. This is untrue. The initiation into Reiki begins with a story of Usui being petitioned by his own Christian students; “If Jesus was in human form and could perform miraculous healings, how can we tap into that same healing ability?”
Usui created a method of channeling energy
all of his own; and his second generation followers created a false story about how he went into fasting and prayer in the wilderness to seek “how he could heal with his hands if Jesus had done so…” It mocks the story of Jesus’ 40 days and 40 nights in the Judean Desert.
Master Usui was not a Christian. His followers were not Christians. The story that has been told to initiate people as practitioners for over 100 years has been a lie; intentionally engineered and promoted to compel people to follow Usui and not Christ. It is well documented that his devotees created this lie to gain popularity with Western minds.
Reiki is a spiritually perverse practice from this 100 year old deception, in itself. Not to mention the many tenets that are anti-Christ and antithetical to Biblical teachings. If you are not a spiritual seeker, most of this information will seem unimportant or inconsequential. But this is a message for all people; religious or not. False teachings and exposure to people who are promoting them on the basis of creating better health can be harmful to you- even as an agnostic or atheist. No matter how popular something becomes, the core of something built upon a lie cannot remain unexposed.
Those who know me know that I am a proponent of religious freedom and celebrate diversity in all things. But I also feel compelled to speak and pray about this topic as I have for years. I especially feel burdened for those who have learned Reiki for their true Christian or humanitarian desire to help others recover from pain and disease. They were lied to-and shy of rape and murder, I cannot fathom anything more profane; to be lulled into a “Christian healing practice” by someone who studied anything but Christianity- being subjected to things they are not told. I am not a Christian “apologist” nor am I seeking to place Christianity in a supreme position over any other religion. At the same time, Reiki is an anti-Christ practice that, in its own power, should never have had to align itself falsely with the story of Jesus to garner formidability.
A beautiful lie is still a lie.
If you are a spiritual seeker, most especially a Christian, you should be offended at practices that were taught to students under the guise of Christianity, but are actually rooted in spiritual subversion.
Just because kind people practice “kind things,” it doesn’t make their practice good or good for you.
If you believe in spiritual hygiene and understand spiritual warfare, please message me before you participate in trending spa offerings or wellness services. If you offer this as a practitioner, I very much welcome a discussion with you in the spirit of love and education.
Our community has seen predatory practices more than once; and I don’t want to be insensitive by naming those here. Suffice to say, these things work against the mission of the Divine; even if they are compelling or feel good in the moment. It is time that we not only forgive and pray, but also rebuke and stand in the truth of what we have come to know and understand.
They have gone on in the rooms of the finest people in the community; some knew and some didn’t. Some practitioners aren’t even aware until it’s too late. So please, pray in all things. Trust your gut and ask The Great Divine to guide you toward truth and protect you against falsehood and derailment.
Sometimes it takes 100 years for a hook to grab onto bigger fish. I’m seeing Reiki being promoted now more than ever. It’s a deep sea with many lost boats. Sometimes the fisherman are willing to cut their lines and repent; learning best how to truly help facilitate healing and wellness for others. That is my prayer and hope for all.
If you would like to learn more from a former Usui Reiki student, about the dangers of practicing this or receiving this modality and others, please be in touch.
I plan to prepare a presentation for local organizations and churches so that they can better understand how people are being exposed to a practice that can be potentially devastating; spiritually and emotionally.
Although some of the energy shifting principles are based in ancient martial arts concepts, Reiki itself carries a century-long amalgamation of misinformation, deception, false doctrine and egocentrism.
As with my dear friend who introduced me to this practice many years ago, she too has rebuked Reiki. She was a Master Level practitioner and offered her work to hospice patients and at Piedmont Hospital for many years. It has been a difficult journey to heal and reconcile. But many of us who finally broke free from the perverse power it can garner are speaking our truths with the hopes that other loving hearts can break free also.
